Fix weak Shopify product descriptions

The signs of a weak description, why it costs you sales, and how to rewrite it in minutes.

The description box in Shopify is the field most stores fill in once at launch and never touch again. It is also the field where most product pages quietly lose the sale. Here is how to spot a weak Shopify product description, why it underperforms, and how to fix it without rewriting your entire store.

The signs of a weak Shopify product description

  • It opens with specs. "100% cotton, machine wash cold" is not a first line.
  • It uses generic adjectives. "Premium, high-quality, soft, durable" tells the buyer nothing.
  • It reads like the supplier wrote it. Because the supplier did.
  • It does not name the buyer. No "for parents who," "for runners who," "for first-time owners."
  • It ignores the reviews. Customers describe the product better than the copy does.
  • It has no clear reason to choose this product over a competitor.

Why generic descriptions do not sell

A shopper landing on a Shopify product page is making one decision: is this the right product for me. A generic description does not help them decide. It looks the same as ten competitors. The buyer either keeps shopping or leaves.

Google and AI search tools do the same thing for different reasons. A generic description has no specific facts to pull. The product page gets crawled, but it does not get quoted in an answer.

What a strong Shopify description looks like

  1. A first line that names the buyer and the moment. Who is this for and when do they need it.
  2. Three to five short paragraphs. Not one block, not twenty bullets.
  3. The specific words your customers use in reviews. Pull from your own review base.
  4. One sharp differentiator. What makes this product the choice over the next one.
  5. Concrete facts. Size, weight, materials, what is in the box. Specs at the end, not the top.

How Pro Product Page rewrites a Shopify description

You paste the product URL. We read the page, your reviews, and up to three competitor pages. Then we return a new description, written in your brand voice and built from your customers' language. You paste it into the Shopify product editor in the description box. Done in minutes.

We also return the meta title, meta description, an FAQ, and product data, so the whole search-listing block on Shopify gets stronger at the same time.

What this is not

  • Not a Shopify app. Nothing to install, no permissions to grant.
  • Not a generic AI writer. We start from your real page and reviews.
  • Not automatic. You see and approve every word before it goes live.
